Body of Missing Boy Found After Ian Alert Issued

According to Kentucky State Police, a 5-year-old boy who was the subject of an Ian Alert has been found dead. Authorities said the boy, identified as Silas McMillen, had gone missing from the Cub Run community in Hart County.

Kentucky State Police Post 3 was contacted around 10:42 p.m. Monday by the Hart County Sheriff’s Office about the missing child. The Ian Alert, which is Kentucky’s child abduction emergency alert system, was issued shortly after 1 a.m. Tuesday.

“The child was last seen in the area of Matney Road in the Cub Run community,” police stated.

An emergency response team, including local law enforcement, search crews, and volunteers, began searching the area immediately. Just before 4:45 a.m., the boy was found deceased.

“The juvenile was located deceased near the residence,” KSP Post 3 said in a press release. “Detectives and troopers are currently on scene and the investigation remains ongoing.”


Local and State Agencies Responded Quickly

The emergency response was extensive, involving multiple agencies. Kentucky State Police confirmed the death shortly before 5 a.m. Tuesday.

“Just before 4:45 a.m. CDT, the juvenile was located deceased near the residence,” officials stated in the Ian Alert update.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.


Wave of Grief Follows Ian Alert Cancellation

As the Ian Alert was officially canceled, communities across Kentucky expressed sorrow.

“We are heartbroken,” a WAVE News report read, echoing the sentiments of many in the region. “The circumstances surrounding his disappearance and death are still under investigation.”

KSP continues to work closely with the Hart County Coroner’s Office and other relevant agencies to determine what led to the tragic outcome.

“More information will be released as it becomes available and the investigation continues,” KSP said.
